American Sign Language is indeed a true language--complete with regional variations--and people watching the many sign-language-for-children tapes on the market will note the differences from tape to tape. Is the sign for "cookie" a hand turned down twisting from right to left or is it a down-turned hand making "picking" gestures right to left? (Must be a "soda" versus "pop" kind of thing.) Say It With a Sign presents 44 basic signs in the categories of food, play, animals, body parts, and home, with the demonstrators saying and signing each word five times, accompanied by footage of children doing the same, with computer graphics adding further illustrations of apples, monkeys, etc., all backed by pleasant original music. A good choice for public libraries, especially where similar titles circulate well,
this is recommended. Aud: K, E, P. (R. Reagan)
