MOTHER CREATES SIGN LANGUAGE VIDEO FOR CHILDREN

AUSTIN, TX, January 29, 2004- The studies have been done and the definitive results are in. Using sign language with very young children can help develop language, communication, and social skills. On playgrounds around the country little ones not yet even toddling are using basic American Sign Language gestures to communicate with teachers, parents and each other. The question now is how do we go about teaching them?

Up until now the best resources have been books and some videos designed for the parent. However, in October of 2003, local video production company Timeline Productions debuted the first of what will be a series of 3 sign language videos specifically designed for infants, babies and toddlers. It is called "Say It With A Sign" and is emerging as a great tool for teaching kids basic communication through sign language.

The series is the creation of partners Nora Salinas and Dawn Alexander (co-founders of Timeline Productions) who were inspired to tackle the project after Salinas's daughter Liliana was born with Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome children often have verbal delay and many speech therapists recommend signing to help with verbal skills.

"Say It With A Sign" uses a simple but visually interesting format to teach ALS signs (with a few modifications for tiny hands). The video is underscored with a completely original soundtrack and uses written text, colorful graphics, animation, live video and sound effects to hold a baby's attention while they learn to sign along.

After a couple of months the first video is getting a great response. Britani Grimberg, a daycare provider from Rock Hill SC says "I've been using the tape in my classroom and one of my kids started signing "more" and "eat" over thanksgiving dinner. His mother was so surprised and proud!"

Timeline Productions was established in 1996. For more information on the "Say It With A Sign" video series, on signing with children or about our company visit the website www.sayitvideos.com or contact by phone at (512)349-9436 or via e-mail at nora_salinas@sbcglobal.net
